Welcome to ex-music man Michael Dorf’s sprawling west SoHo wine bar-music venue hybrid. The lofty space is home to one of the city’s only full-service wineries, where enthusiasts willing to part with a few thousand can craft their own custom wine. For the less deep-pocketed, City Winery’s solid, wine-forward food menu alone is worth the walk to Varick Street.

Ask for the off-menu lamb sliders, which can be best described as flavor-bombs on a plate. Made with fragrant ground lamb, herby tzaziki, and topped with zesty feta, it’s perfectly complemented by an equally intense, mountain-grown Napa Valley Cabernet Franc. With a supple palate, velvety tannins, and a lingering finish, this wine has the strength to stand up to a flavor combination as complex as these lamb sliders.
